Every few weeks, a new “most advanced and human-like” AI service is introduced, and now we have ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode. ChatGPT Plus and Teams subscribers will be the first to try out the new features, enhancing their overall experience with the app. Starting next week, Enterprise and Edu customers will also gain access to OpenAI’s ChatGPT voice feature, minimizing the wait for different subscription tiers.

The voice mode update for ChatGPT will be gradually rolled out to users’ devices. Those eligible will receive a notification in the app about the new setting. OpenAI has revealed that users can expect features such as “Custom Instructions, Memory, five new voices, and improved accents.”

Excited for ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode? For those following the rapid advancements in AI, the release of ChatGPT’s Advanced Voice Mode is exciting news. While similar voice modes are already available in AI services like Google’s Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, or Apple’s Siri, OpenAI’s ChatGPT voice update stands out due to its impressive voice communication quality.

ChatGPT has already established itself as a leader in both content generation and human-like communication—there was even an instance where the AI mimicked its user. This contributes to why the new voice mode update is significant. The Advanced Voice Mode will introduce five new voices: Arbor, Maple, Sol, Spruce, and Vale.

This brings the total number of voice options to nine, providing a more diverse selection of AI voices. Notably absent is the ‘Sky’ voice, which was removed after Scarlett Johansson accused OpenAI of using her voice without permission, leveraging its similarity to her role in the movie “Her.”

The “human-like” aspect of the upcoming voice mode goes beyond just sounding human. The AI will also have a more dynamic personality, offering conversational responses that feel more like talking to a friend. It will be able to inject humor into conversations and handle natural interruptions mid-response, allowing users to steer conversations in the desired direction.

OpenAI’s Advanced Voice Mode will also include improved accent recognition and the ability to remember user preferences and prompts for more personalized responses.

Details of the New ChatGPT Voice Feature: ChatGPT Plus subscribers, who pay $20 USD per month, can expect to see the new feature on their apps starting September 24, 2024. Users will receive an automatic notification alerting them when the setting is available.

Initially, the voice mode update will be rolled out in a limited alpha to select users, so not everyone will have immediate access. However, OpenAI promises that “all Plus users will have access by the end of fall,” ensuring the feature will be available soon to all subscribers.

Now, the question remains, will OpenAI releases its APIs for the human like voice? if yes, how can companies leverage this and build various solutions out of it? Talk to an expert!
